Apr 22, 2019 · It came down to two really, either a 225/65 R17 or a 235/60 R17. I hit up a wheel offset visualizer to see the difference of various combinations. Indeed I think the 235/65 setup would work but it was pushing things very tight.
225/55-R17 tires are 1.42 inches (36 mm) larger in diameter than 235/45-R17 tires and the speedometer difference is 5.3%.
Sep 10, 2009 · 255/60R17 should be the same height as 245/65R17 and 235/70R17. The 235/65R17 will actually be slightly shorter than the OE tires. (Many here actually go larger: 245-265 widths in 65-70 series.) Unless you plan on chucking these tires, you should make sure they're a size you really want.
The 2nd number 55 is used to calculate the sidewall height or "aspect ratio", by percentage. So, the sidewall height of a 235/55 R 17 tire is 60% of 235 = 192. The 3rd number 17 (generally preceded by an "R") is Rim Diameter in inches. This is the diameter of the rims bead seat base, not the diameter of the outer rim edge.
